K-pop group NewJeans is facing major uncertainty after agency Ador officially terminated member Danielle’s exclusive contract, effectively removing her from both the group and the company. The decision marks a significant escalation in the long-running legal dispute that has divided the members and their agency for months.
In a statement released Monday, Ador confirmed that it had ended Danielle’s contract, citing a complete breakdown of trust and ongoing conflict linked to the group’s legal battle with the label.
Ador Confirms Danielle’s Removal From NewJeans
“We have determined that it is no longer possible for Danielle to remain a member of NewJeans or an artist under Ador,” the company said in its official statement. Ador added that Danielle was formally notified of the termination on the same day.
The agency also stated that it plans to pursue legal action against a family member of Danielle as well as former Ador CEO Min Hee-jin, whom the company accuses of instigating the conflict that ultimately led to Danielle’s departure.
How the NewJeans–Ador Dispute Began
The dispute traces back to 2024, when parent company Hybe requested that Min Hee-jin step down as Ador’s CEO in April. Although she initially resisted, Min ultimately resigned in November 2024.
Following her departure, the members of NewJeans challenged the validity of their contracts, arguing that Ador had breached its obligations and that their exclusive agreements had effectively ended in November 2024.
Legal Battle and Court Ruling
In December 2024, Ador filed a lawsuit seeking confirmation of contract validity and requested an injunction to prevent NewJeans members from engaging in independent activities.
On Oct. 30, 2025, the Seoul Central District Court ruled in favor of Ador, dismissing the group’s attempt to terminate their contracts early. The court confirmed that NewJeans’ exclusive contracts remain valid through 2029, requiring the members to continue activities under Ador.
Status of Other NewJeans Members
Despite Danielle’s exit, Ador confirmed that discussions with the remaining members are progressing.
- Hanni will officially return to Ador and continue activities as a NewJeans member.
- Minji is still in talks with the agency, which Ador described as “positive” and aimed at expanding mutual understanding.
- Haerin and Hyein were confirmed on Nov. 12 to continue group activities under Ador.
What’s Next for NewJeans?
Ador stated that further details regarding the conflict and future plans for NewJeans will be addressed at a separate event. The agency has not yet announced the date or format of this explanation.
With Danielle’s departure now official, questions remain about NewJeans’ lineup, future releases, and the possibility of a full-member comeback. Fans are closely watching as the situation continues to unfold.
