Jailer 2 Trailer: Rajinikanth Returns as Muthuvel Pandian, Takes on a New Army of Enemies
The wait is finally over. Rajinikanth is back as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian, and this time, the retired jailer appears to have an even bigger mess to deal with.
The trailer of Jailer 2 was released by Sun Pictures on October 5, giving fans their first extended look at Nelson Dilipkumar’s much-awaited sequel to the 2023 blockbuster Jailer. The film brings Rajinikanth back in his iconic Muthuvel Pandian avatar, but the new story appears to take the character into a much larger and more dangerous conflict.
And yes, the trailer has pretty much everything fans were waiting for—Rajinikanth’s trademark swagger, explosions, guns, dark humour, massive action sequences and a line-up of new and returning characters.
But beneath all the mass moments, there seems to be a much bigger story brewing.
Watch the Jailer 2 Trailer
The trailer immediately creates curiosity around the identity of the man responsible for a series of violent incidents.
Suraj Venjaramoodu’s character is seen interrogating someone and trying to find out who is behind the destruction taking place around them. The answer, however, doesn’t come easily.
The person being questioned makes it clear that finding this mysterious man won’t be simple.
And then the trailer starts dropping hints.
The man everyone appears to be looking for is none other than Tiger Muthuvel Pandian.
Rajinikanth’s character, however, doesn’t seem to be living the life one would expect from someone with his reputation. The former jailer is shown living a comparatively quiet life and even working as a driver.
That calm doesn’t last for long.

Muthuvel Pandian Is Back, and He’s Not Playing Nice
One of the biggest attractions of the trailer is watching Rajinikanth slowly slip back into the Tiger mode.
Muthuvel Pandian may look like an ordinary retired man on the surface, but the people chasing him clearly have no idea what they are dealing with.
The trailer plays with this contrast throughout.
On one side, there are people trying to locate and take down Tiger. On the other, there is a man who appears completely unfazed by the growing threat around him.
At one point, the challenge seems to be whether Muthuvel can continue hiding his real identity—or whether circumstances will force him to bring back the old Tiger.
And judging by the trailer, the latter seems far more likely.
A New Group of Villains Comes After Tiger
The sequel significantly expands the world of Jailer with several new faces.
S. J. Suryah, Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu and Mithun Chakraborty appear to be connected to the new conflict, with the trailer suggesting that Tiger has attracted the attention of people far more powerful than the enemies he faced previously. Sun Pictures’ official page confirms the major new cast additions alongside Rajinikanth.
S. J. Suryah, in particular, appears to be one of the major players in the new storyline.
Vidya Balan also gets a noticeable presence in the trailer, adding another interesting layer to the conflict. Mithun Chakraborty and Suraj Venjaramoodu further expand the group of characters standing on the opposite side of Tiger.
The trailer doesn’t reveal everything about their motives, but one thing is clear: Muthuvel Pandian has a lot more enemies this time.
“Tiger” Has Been Hiding in Plain Sight
The trailer’s biggest fun comes from watching people underestimate Muthuvel.
He may be living a quieter life, but the moment the situation gets out of control, the old Tiger begins to surface again.
The film appears to be playing heavily with this idea of an ageing but still extremely dangerous man who doesn’t need to prove anything until someone pushes him too far.
And when that happens, Muthuvel doesn’t exactly respond politely.
The trailer builds towards one of his classic threats, with the character making it clear that the people coming after him are going to regret their decision.
By the final stretch, his message to the enemies is unmistakable: he is ready to turn the people standing against him into toast.
That line, combined with Rajinikanth’s delivery and Anirudh Ravichander’s background score, gives the trailer the exact mass-film energy Jailer fans were hoping for.
Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar and Jackie Shroff Return
If the new villains weren’t enough, the sequel also brings back some of the fan-favourite characters from the first film.
Mohanlal returns as Matthew, while Shiva Rajkumar reprises Narasimha and Jackie Shroff returns as Kamdev.
Their appearances suggest that Muthuvel won’t necessarily have to fight this battle alone.
The first Jailer became known for its star-powered cameos, and Jailer 2 appears to be taking that formula even further.
The trailer gives fans glimpses of these returning stars, although the exact extent of their roles in the sequel remains under wraps.
Their presence alone, however, is enough to raise expectations.
What Happened to Varman?
The sequel also appears to be carrying forward an important thread from the ending of the first Jailer.
In the 2023 film, Varman warned Muthuvel Pandian shortly before his death that there were more powerful people above him and that Tiger would eventually have to face their wrath.
The Jailer 2 trailer now seems to suggest that the warning was not an empty threat.
A much larger network appears to be coming after Muthuvel.
And this time, Tiger may have to deal with people who know much more about his past and his power.
That connection gives the sequel a direct link to the first film instead of making it feel like a completely separate story.
Yogi Babu Adds His Usual Dose of Humour
Despite all the guns, violence and serious threats, Nelson hasn’t forgotten the humour that helped make the first Jailer work.
Yogi Babu is seen in the trailer as well, and one of his moments comes at exactly the kind of point where the film needs some comic relief.
The trailer shows the contrast between Tiger’s violent actions and his seemingly normal behaviour afterwards.
Someone even points out the absurdity of Tiger dealing with people and then casually returning to everyday work as if nothing happened.
That balance between action and deadpan comedy has been one of Nelson’s trademarks, and Jailer 2 seems to be keeping that tone intact.
The Trailer Promises Bigger Action
If there is one thing the trailer makes obvious, it is that Jailer 2 is going bigger.
There are guns, explosions, chase sequences, hand-to-hand fights and several large-scale action moments.
Rajinikanth is shown in both his quieter avatar and the full-blown Tiger mode, giving the trailer two very different sides of Muthuvel Pandian.
The action is backed by Anirudh Ravichander, whose music once again plays a major role in creating the larger-than-life atmosphere.
The combination of Rajinikanth’s screen presence and Anirudh’s score is one of the elements fans have been talking about since the trailer dropped.
Nelson Dilipkumar Returns as Director
Nelson Dilipkumar, who directed the first Jailer, returns for the sequel.
This is Nelson’s second collaboration with Rajinikanth after the success of the original film.
The director has once again mixed dark humour with action, larger-than-life characters and an unusual setup around Muthuvel Pandian.
The official credits list Nelson as the writer and director, with Anirudh Ravichander handling the music, Vijay Kartik Kannan as cinematographer and R. Nirmal as editor.
Jailer 2 Release Date
The wait won’t be too long now.
Jailer 2 is scheduled to release in theatres worldwide on October 15, 2026. The release date has been officially listed by Sun Pictures.
The film is produced by Sun Pictures and stars Rajinikanth in the lead as Muthuvel Pandian.
With the trailer now out, the countdown to the theatrical release has officially begun.
What to Expect From Jailer 2
The trailer doesn’t reveal the entire story, but it does establish the basic conflict.
Tiger Muthuvel Pandian has once again become the target.
There are new enemies looking for him, old allies ready to return, a mysterious larger network operating behind the scenes and a retired jailer who may have to become Tiger once again.
And honestly, that’s probably all the setup a Rajinikanth fan needs.
The first Jailer worked because it knew exactly when to let Rajinikanth be quiet and when to unleash him. The sequel appears to be following the same formula, but with a much larger canvas.
This time, the question isn’t whether Muthuvel Pandian can handle a few enemies.
It’s how many enemies can stand in front of Tiger before the Tiger decides he’s had enough?
With Rajinikanth returning, Nelson back in the director’s chair, Anirudh handling the music and Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, Jackie Shroff, Vidya Balan, S. J. Suryah, Mithun Chakraborty and Suraj Venjaramoodu joining the world, Jailer 2 is clearly aiming to be one of the biggest Indian theatrical releases of the year.
And if the trailer is anything to go by, Muthuvel Pandian is ready.
Tiger is back.
